new CS2 update: a new type of item

As the anniversary of Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) approaches, anticipation for something big is growing among players, while the developers continue to release new CS2 updates. The latest patch, weighing almost 50 MB, might seem insignificant at first glance, but it contains some interesting new features and changes.

New Features and Changes

The CS2 update introduced options for detecting counter-strafe on unofficial servers, which will be useful for those who prefer competitive play. It also includes latency measurement for direct UDP connections with community servers, with latency data now accessible through the net_connection_status command. Localization files have been updated to enhance the overall gameplay experience.

However, the most intriguing changes were found in the game's interface files. In one of the files responsible for displaying new items in the inventory, the build number was changed, although no visible changes were made. This could indicate that the developers have implemented new scripts but hidden them before release. Additionally, this file contains scripts related to mission rewards, which could suggest that a new operation is being prepared for the game.

Secrets of Hidden Files

Hidden files continue to see the removal of strings related to quests for an upcoming operation, suggesting that developers are preparing for a major update or a new operation. While specific details remain unknown, and skepticism is advisable, certain signs hint at potential future plans.

Delayed Features: Artificial or Strategic Decision?

An interesting aspect of the recent updates is the addition of the eye functionality for agents. This functionality was found in the code as early as the beginning of September 2023, but it took 26 days for it to be released. Comparing two versions of the updates in CS2 showed that the eye system was identical, except for one disabled feature in the facial material.

After enabling this feature, it was found that the agents' eyes were fully functional, including movements and blinking, raising the question of why a feature that was already working was withheld from players. This leads to speculation that the developers might have been deliberately delaying the release of ready-to-go features, reminiscent of their approach in another game, Dota 2.

Awaiting Surprises

What exactly the developers are preparing remains a mystery. But one thing is certain: Valve continues to actively work on developing CS2, preparing new updates and surprises. Players can only wait and be ready for unexpected changes that could happen at any moment.
