how CS2 skin rental works

On the night of May 24th, developers released a major update for Counter-Strike 2. Alongside map overhauls like Vertigo, changes in game economics, and various gameplay mechanics, Valve introduced the ability to rent skins. In this article, we'll detail how the CS2 skin rental system works.

Functionality of Skin Rental in CS2

Now players can use a key to opt out of receiving one random item from a collection and instead unlock access to all skins except knives for a week. At the end of the week, the rented weapon reverts to its standard version. Rented skins cannot be traded or sold on the Steam marketplace and do not support StatTrak technology. Currently, only skins from the "Kilowatt" case are available for rent.

The rental cost is equal to the cost of opening the case — €2.35. If you choose to rent, the case will still be considered opened and will disappear from your inventory. After a week, the rental period expires, leaving you with just memories.

How to Rent Skins in CS2

To rent CS2 skins, follow these steps:

  • Make sure you have the "Kilowatt" case in your inventory.

  • Purchase it from the Steam marketplace or earn it in-game.

  • Buy a key to open the "Kilowatt" case. Activate the key.

  • The game will offer two options: "Open Case" or "Rent Skin." Choose "Rent Skin."

  • The collection will be available to you for seven days.
