who’s the best CS2 captain

In the competitive scene of CS2 in 2024, the battle for the top spot is fiercely intense. Debates over who deserves the title of top IGL continue to rage. One of the key factors in a team's success is the captain—the In-Game Leader (IGL)—who directs the actions of the entire team. However, in such a competitive environment, even a captain must not only lead but also demonstrate a high level of individual skill.

Based on HLTV statistics and personal impressions, a ranking was created for team captains from the HLTV top-15, evaluating them on their individual level of play. The main criteria were: rating 2.0, K/D ratio, Impact, and performance against top-5 opponents in major tournaments of 2024. This ranking excludes captains who play with AWP and the captains of G2 and Cloud9 due to recent roster changes making it difficult to assess them objectively.

#10 Snappi (Falcons)

Opening our ranking is Falcons’ CS2 captain. In CS2, Marco "Snappi" Pfeiffer has significantly declined, with his personal stats being among the lowest of those in the ranking. Although his team remains competitive, Snappi’s individual performance leaves much to be desired.

#9 Aleksib (NAVI)

Aleksi "Aleksib" Virolainen has brought success to NAVI, but his personal stats remain weak. The Finnish captain’s K/D and Impact figures are among the lowest, preventing him from climbing higher in the ranking.

#8 Karrigan (FaZe Clan)

Finn "Karrigan" Andersen is a living legend, known for his ability to motivate the team and make strategic breakthroughs. However, his individual skill is far from perfect. Nevertheless, Karrigan remains good in clutch situations, making him a significant player in crucial moments.

#7 Maj3r (Eternal Fire)

Turkish captain Engin "Maj3r" Küpeli shows a high level of play despite being 33 years old. He confidently competes against top-5 opponents, proving that age is not a barrier to successful play at a high level.

#6 JT (Complexity Gaming)

Jonathan "JT" Telleiro from South Africa is a unique CS2 player who rarely attracts the community’s attention but consistently performs at a high level. His play against top teams is admirable, earning him a high spot in the ranking.

#5 Apex (Vitality)

Dan "Apex" Madesclaire was once a strong entry fragger but has since become an excellent captain. However, his star roles in the team sometimes impact his stats. Despite this, Apex is capable of carrying maps solo, making him one of the best IGLs in terms of personal skill.

#4 Chopper (Team Spirit)

Leonid "Chopper" Vishnyakov is one of the most underrated captains on the pro scene. His stats this year are impressive, especially in matches against strong opponents. Chopper is a captain who can take control of the game in key moments and lead his CS2 team to victory.

#3 Siuhy (MOUZ)

Kamil "Siuhy" Szkaradek is one of the best young captains on the tier-1 scene. He consistently demonstrates a high level of play, rarely falling out of the match. Siuhy deserves attention not only as an IGL but also as one of the most promising players.

#2 Kyxsan (Apeks)

Kristjan "Kyxsan" Mitev is the true mastermind, earning his place at the top through hard work. In addition to outstanding leadership skills, Kyxsan showcases excellent personal gameplay, boasting the best clutch win rate among all participants in the ranking.

#1 Blitz (The MongolZ)

At the top spot is Sergil "Blitz" Ganzorig, captain of The MongolZ. He is the only player in the list with a rating above one, making him the absolute leader of the ranking. Blitz can hold his own alongside his teammates, making him the ideal captain who can both lead and serve as an example to his teammates.

Blitz rightfully occupies the top position in our ranking and embodies the perfect IGL in CS2.
